The postponement of the Landsmót that was to be held from 27th June to the 5th of July at Vindheimamelum in Skagafjordur was a big blow for the equine industry as well as tourism operators and the community as a whole, particularly in Skagafjordur where preparations were underway to greet thousands of guests.

Tickets 2010 will of course be refunded


Due to the ongoing infectious upper respiratory disease in the horses in Iceland for the last few weeks, Landsmót has been postponed.  At a meeting today with all major stakeholders, the Ministry of Fisheries and the Vetinary authorities of Iceland the wish to held Landsmót in year 2011 was expressed by all attendees.
Therefore, Landsmot and LH have requested further discussions with the representatives of FEIF to discuss a suitable solution for having Landsmót in year 2011. Read more

Landsmót 2010 cancelled

Dear friends.
As many of you know the majority of the horses in Iceland have been going through an infectious upper respiratory disease for the last few months.  At a meeting today, May 31st, with all major stakeholders as well as a representative of the Ministry of Fisheries and Agriculture and the Vetinary authorities of Iceland, it was decided to cancel Landmot 2010 in Vindheimamelar in Skagafjörður, due to this situation.

Infectious respiratory disese in horses

Many horses in Iceland have been going through an infectious upper respiratory disease for the last few weeks. The most common respiratory viruses have been ruled out by testing. The bacterium Streptococcus zooepidemicus has on the other hand been diagnosed in many horses with extended duration of symptoms. The disease has no relation to the recent volcanic eruption. Bacterial infection


A statement was released today, May 27th,  from the Icelandic Food and veterinary Authority Office (MAST) about the cause of the outbreak of upper repiratory disease in the Icelandic horse population. As stated the epidemic is mainly caused by the bacteria Streptococcus zooepidemicus.

The goal: Landsmót as scheduled!


On Friday May 21st a meeting was held at the Ministry of Fisheries and Agriculture with main stakeholders within the Icelandic horsemanship. The main purpose of the meeting was to get a clear overview of the infectious cough that has been spreading out among the horses in the country. After a lengthy discussion and evaluation of the situation it was decided that Landsmót would be held as scheduled, but some changes suggested for set dates of the preliminary breeding shows and qualifications, the welfare of the Icelandic horse population being of top priority.

Statement of the Executive Committee of Landsmót

At a meeting of the Executive Committee of Landsmót held in Skagafjörður on May 7th with the veterinarian of horse welfare, the decision was made to keep the preparation of Landsmót fully ongoing, despite the infectious cough that has been spreading out among the horses in the country.

Time limit of pre-sale expanded until May 15th

The on-line ticket sale is due to technical problems not available at the moment.  We at Landsmot are sorry for the inconvenience, this is causing. 
Our technicians are at the moment working on solving the problem and according to them the ticket sale will reopen tonight.

Due to these unpleasant technical problems, we have decided to expand the time limit of the ticket pre-sale until May 15th.
