Bacterial infection

A statement was released today, May 27th,  from the Icelandic Food and veterinary Authority Office (MAST) about the cause of the outbreak of upper repiratory disease in the Icelandic horse population. As stated the epidemic is mainly caused by the bacteria Streptococcus zooepidemicus.

Next Monday, May 31st a second meeting will be held with main stakeholders of Landsmot and the Ministry of Fisheries and Agriculture.
The purpose of the meeting is to re-evaluate the situation and to agree upon a final decision, whether or not Landsmót 2010 will be hosted as scheduled, postponed or cancelled due to the cough epidemic.  Landsmot will give further information here at the website as soon as a decision has been made.
