Landsmót Focuses on Sustainability and Better Waste Sorting

Sustainability is a key priority at Landsmót Hestamanna at Hólar in Hjaltadal. The goal is to make the event more environmentally friendly through improved waste sorting and the responsible use of resources. Together, the organisers, visitors and partners are working to create a cleaner and more sustainable Landsmót for both present and future generations.

Special waste sorting stations have been installed throughout the event grounds by the Icelandic Waste Management Company (Íslenska gámafélagið), making it easy for visitors to separate their waste into four categories: plastic, paper and cardboard, food waste, and mixed waste. The stations are located at key points around the venue, including the campsite, the food court and the main event area, with additional sorting facilities in the staff dining area.

To raise awareness of the importance of recycling and make waste sorting engaging for visitors of all ages, Landsmót has enlisted an unusual helper – Káinn frá Hólum. The Icelandic horse encourages guests to sort their waste correctly and helps spread the sustainability message in a fun and memorable way.

These initiatives represent an important step towards a more sustainable Landsmót, where everyone can contribute to reducing the event's environmental impact and helping create a cleaner, more responsible environment for visitors, participants and the Icelandic horse.
